Photographed in the Shafter, Nevada freight yard of the defunct Nevada Northern Railway. A sign nearby stated that the area was the property of the Nevada Northern Railway Museum. There was evidence of track work being done in the area. I was the only human there during my two-hour visit.

The caboose was built in March 1951 and is numbered "SSR 01469." The numerals looked as if they might be original, but the "SSR" had been painted on later, obscuring whatever was there before.

The imagery of Bing Maps shows these sitting on a yard track. The imagery is so good that you can even see the red and yellow colors. To see what I mean, do this:
1. Go to the main page of Bing Maps
2. Type "shafter nv" in the search field and press the Enter key
3. In the toolbar below the search field, choose "Bird's Eye," then "Aerial."
4. Below the "Aerial" option, uncheck "show labels" (this removes the railroad overlay that obscures the locomotive and caboose).
5. Zoom in.
